Approximately 50 cars have been marked with what seems to be human bodily fluid in the Germany's municipality of Hanau close to Frankfurt, according to law enforcement.
Vehicles, walls and postboxes were vandalized, in some cases with swastikas, they reported in a release.
Law enforcement state they were notified during the night on Wednesday night, when a individual noticed that a vehicle in the Lamboy neighborhood of Hanau had been smeared with a reddish substance.
The fluid had been applied in the shape of a banned symbol, they added.
Law enforcement then found multiple other vandalized cars and building exteriors in the surrounding area.
Swastikas are banned in Germany under legislation prohibiting the visible presentation of Nazi symbols.
Law enforcement say preliminary tests show the substance was most likely human blood.
"There is still no indication as to its origin; authorities are not yet informed of any injuries in relation with the occurrence," they stated.
Municipal representatives said they were trying "to solve the incident" and have appealed to the public for details.
A senior political figure stated the incident made him without words and had to be resolved rapidly.
"This incident strikes at the very heart of Hanau and revives the trauma of the far-right terrorist attack half a decade ago," he wrote on a platform, mentioning the murder of nine individuals by a assailant aiming at residents of migrant background in February 2020.
