Government Official Confirms Ministry of Defence Examining Security Risk from Chinese Cars, with Personnel Told to Refrain from Secret Talk in Vehicles.

An defense minister has stated that the MoD is currently investigating the possible security risks associated with Chinese cars, while staff have been instructed to avoid talking about secret matters in any cars.

Security Advice for MoD Personnel

During a recently aired appearance on LBC, Luke Pollard commented on claims that MoD officials have been told not to talk about secret material while travelling in Chinese cars.

The minister said that the MoD is “investigating” cars from China within its vehicle pools, but stressed that safety is a issue in all contemporary vehicles.

Our department has a fleet of thousands of vehicles in the Ministry of Defence and Chinese ones account for a very small number.
But regardless of if you’re driving a Chinese car or a non-Chinese car, our instruction to our staff is to avoid connecting Ministry of Defence devices into their vehicle, not to have discussions at a classified classification in any kind of car, due to the growing threats of surveillance that are present in every single automobile, to only have those confidential talks in protected areas. This is a wise and reasonable thing for anyone worried about safety.

After it was put to him that it would be wise for the MoD to stop using every cars from China, Pollard responded: That is exactly what we are looking into at the moment.”

Broader Security Context

The announcement comes as claims from Scandinavian countries have alerted the United Kingdom to the existence of dual-use shutdown mechanisms in Chinese electric buses, which could allow the Chinese government to switch off buses and cause chaos to public transit.

Furthermore, a Russia spy ship was reportedly shining lasers at Royal Air Force pilots, described as a “extremely risky” act by government representatives.

This broader defence environment highlights the significance of strong measures and vigilance in every areas of government operations, including transport use to discussions practices.
